We are going to present our topic on propaganda.

Nissa: Hey Min Wen, do you know what is the meaning of “propaganda”?

Min Wen: Hmmm… I am not too sure myself…

Eric: I know a video that will tell us more details. Let’s sit back and watch the video.

Nissa: I see… Now I know the meaning!

Min Wen: Yah that’s right! How about all of you.. Did you all understand it?

Eric: well…Hope you guys understand the video. Now we are going to present to you about the power-point slides that we did.

Nissa:Hmm..How is propaganda used as a weapon during WWII?

Min Wen:I know! Propaganda can be used to change people’s mindsets or even (pause) brainwash them…

Nissa: Yes! I read that the Japanese used propaganda to show that they are a good ruler. No wonder our group wanted to find out more about this.

Eric: We chose this topic as the word “propaganda” caught our group’s attention. We did not understand the meaning of “PROPAGANDA” at first. After we discussed among ourselves, we felt it would be challenging for us.

Nissa: There was once when we did not make a plan when we wanted to visit the Bealieu house in Sembawang. As we did not find out more, one of our group-mates was warned by a policeman on patrol for taking photos in a restricted area. If we had done our research, we would have enough time to visit Ford Factory instead on the same day. This incident emphasized the need of planning or we would just waste our time and effort.

Eric: How did we solve these problems?

Min Wen: Some solutions given by our group members are we would set deadlines and remind each other to do their work in time. We would give each other reminder calls, smses and emails to make sure everyone is aware of the deadlines. When we visited Ford Factory the next day, we made sure we found out relevant information for filming to go smoothly.

Nissa: So what did we learn from this project?

Eric: We learnt from the wasted Sembawang trip to always plan things before doing. Not only the skill of planning can be applied in our studies, we can also apply it in the future, in our work. Planning is very important in our life. If we fail to plan, we plan to fail. This is crucial as it can determine how well we will do in our future.

Min Wen: This is the end of our presentation. Thanks for your attention.

As we all know,the person is Boo Radley.Why did he give Scout and Jem this things?We know that this is the past right and Scout is the one who is telling.

The other part,was about the drawing and tearing of Mokingbird.We know that it is a sin to kill a mokingbird as it brings joy to what Miss Maudie say.The mokingbird was the innocence.We can refer this as Atticus shows that every living things life is precious.Therefore,he hated shooting right.

In other part, if you see chapter 10 page 105 where it tells us that the mokingbird was silence.There had been something that happen right.You would surely ask ‘What happened?’ right

Atticus is a lawyer.I know this because the quote ‘when my father,Atticus Finch,went to Montgomery to read law’ tells me that Atticus is judging and also the father of scout.

I choose this picture because this man represents a lawyer.He is wearing a coat and busy discussing about judging matters.This man perfectly matches Atticus.He also look like a father.Whereby he would be angry if Scout and Jem were to disturb Arthur.

it wrote that “‘Almost died first year I come to school and eat et them pecans-folks say he pizened ‘em and put ‘em over on the school side of the fence.”‘

Who is the he?

What did the Isaid almost happened to him after he ate it?

nuts-eating them should NOT KILL anyone right?Someone(he) did something to nuts.So when you eat it,you could die from it right.

clue:the book says pizened so can u tell me who is this person who OTHERS SAY pizened the nuts(he – one person – a man)he is a monster,crazy and dangerous

Chapter 8,page 71,line 10

TOUCHOUS-

What’s the clue(a word) from the sentence?‘Atticus was still touchous about her’Who is her?

think of words that end with ous(verb+ous)

EXAMPLE of word is ZEALOUS

it comes from the word zeal

then touchous is the same

what is zealous in grammar

dictionary will tell you like V – verb,n – noun(etc)

(zealous is an adjective)adjectives – describes feelings/attitude so touchous is a feeling/attitude atticus have towards scout right

(so we need to find out what feeling)that feeling equals to the meaning of touchous

when scout asked if atticus saw Arthur,he was angry because he warned them not to make fun of Boo or disturb him right.Then Jem stopped Scout from asking any more questions right

he said Atticus was still touchous abt us and the Radleys’so we know touchous is a feeling or attitude’can we guess now what feeling/attitude is atticus showing to the kids

Was he pleased with them for asking about Arthur and the Radleys?SO what does touchous mean?

Arthur is also known as Boo Radley.Some call him Boo Radley as he is known to be a phantom.Some of them would call him Arthur as for them he is a normal guy.The one who calls hm by the name Arthur is Miss Maudie and Atticus.I know that Arthur is a normal guy as MIss Maudie said ‘that it is a sad house.I remember Arthur Radley when he was a boy.He always spoke nicely to me,no matter what folks said he did.Spoke as nicely as he knew how’.

I choose this picture as this guy looks normal.He wears simple clothes.His face expression show that he is not fierce or evil.His face shows how polite he is.I know that he is kind as he tries to talk to Miss Maudie as polite as he knew.This means that he had no harm to others.Some people with other opinion may have mistaken him wrongly.

The sentence ‘We were too old to settle an argument with a fist-fight,..’ tells me that scout wanted to have a battle.The word fist-fight tells me that she wanted to box someone.I actually thought that scout was a boy when Jem said that ’she was being a girl’ in chapter 4,page 45.This tells me that she is a tomboy.She acts like one by having fights.

I choose this picture as she looks like a tomboy.Looking closely at her dressing,it i like a boy.Her hat is worn backwards and she ties her hair into two.Her hair is also quite short.The way she post in this picture shows us the posture of a man or so call boy.This picture match with the first paragraph as it looks like she is ready for a fight.

Japanese occupation of Singapore happened between 1942 and 1945.It was when Japanese forces occupied Singapore during World War II,after having deafeated the combined Australian,British,Indian andMalayan garrison.It is a major turning point in the history of several nations, including that of Japan, the United Kingdom, and the colony of Singapore itself. Singapore was renamed ‘Syonan-to’ by the Japanese.

Banana money was issued during the war, and would become worthless after the war was over.

During the Occupation,resources were scarce.The Japanese issued ration cards to control the amount of resources the population received.Adults could purchase 4.8 kg of rice per month, and children 2.4 kg. While the war progressed the amount allowed for adults was reduced by 25%.They took control over the economy as Straits currency by issuing banana money as their main currency which became rare.

Such anti-Japanese activities bother the British who cannot see Japan as a threat even when there are reports of Japanese troop movements southwards.  British propaganda has it that Japanese planes are made of paper.  However, the bombs that fall on Singapore from Japanese planes in the early hours of 8 December 1941 are real bombs. The British are caught unprepared.The troops rushed here are untrained and without battle experience.The two British warships, Repulse and the Prince of Wales, sent to defend Singapore, are sunk by Japanese planes.  The Europeans retreated hastily down the Malayan Peninsula to the safety of Britain’s invincible naval base in Singapore.  In truth, this invincibility is a myth.  Lieutenant-General Tomoyuki Yamashita is undaunted by it.In a matter of 70 days, he sweeps down from the first Japanese landing point in Kota Bahru across the hastily repaired Causeway and into Singapore.”
