Jie Cheng: You may wonder what the word propaganda means. Propaganda is an official government communications that is publisize to the public to influence people’s opinion and emotions towards the other party. Which is brain washing the viewer. The information shown is mostly biased or one-sided. The information is always purposely being spread to help or harm the other party. Propaganda can appear in many forms such as poster and videos.

Nissa(talk while the background is showing the cartoon): As what Jie Cheng said previously, propaganda appears in a form of Video too. One of them is cartoon propaganda. Let me show you one example. Blitz Wolf is an early anti-German World War II cartoon produced in 1942 and directed by Tex Avery. This is another version of the 3 little pigs where the evil wolf is represent by Adolf Hitler. In this cartoon the Wolf
The pigs are defending themselves from the wolf but the sign here says that no Japs allowed thus it shows tyat the wolf show the jap and german are both enermies of the amercans.
This scene shows the wolf in a makeshift tank and has to carry his tank sometimes. The wolf is also shown wearing a lace petticoat which is usually worn by females. Hence, the wolf is seen to be as weak, incompetent, and powerless against the more powerful and smarter americans.

Poster no 1
Min Wen: Let me share about this propaganda poster. This propaganda poster was published during WW2 by the Japanese and the message to the viewers is “welcome to my world” (point to the top) . This means that the japanese is welcoming the other countries to live with them. Each country is represented by children from different countries. The Japanese want people to know that they will bring harmony.

Hu Yu: No. of course not we are well protected.

Eric: As you can see, we have cannons facing the sea to prevent any attack

Min Wen: We also have good facilities like military airfields and underground bunkers

Hui Yu: Yah! don’t forget we also have Naval Base and also protection from the prince of whales.

Jie Cheng: This is Jie Cheng signing off at Fort Siloso 6 August 1941.

Changes to be made

Posted on August 15th, 2008 in Hui Yu, Jie Cheng, Presentation, Project related by Hui Yu  Tagged

1, Introduction
– Definition of propaganda
– Forms of propaganda (leading to cartoon propaganda and slight explanation of other forms)
– Cartoon Propaganda ( to be showed at the side using chroma key method + explanation)
~ cut out more relavant points
– Propaganda poster ( need to choose about 2 more and make it 3 )
* We need to pick out the main points and to talk lesser
* add in background effects
~music (example: Kimigayo )
~get 2 or more person to bow to the Japanese flag (to show that the Japanese want the people
respect them)
2, -Filmed at fort Siloso (The News)
*need to record voice over
*add subtitles
*explain the news (because people may not really understand what the “NEWS”)
~when begining, the narrator will says let’s watch, then the small TV at a corner will maximize
~when ending, the News will acctually minimize and the narrator will explain the NEWS.
3, – Behaded heads placed outside the cathay building
* need to change the actor ( cause Hui Yu is laughing too much ~ destroy the atmosphere )
* definatly need to change the script as, need to focus on main point more. (example, the
Japanese place the heads outside the cathay building is to produce fear to the people and
therefore will not oppose them.)
4, -ending credits
*using a photo of the current sucessful and independece Singpore.

We have to redo our Documentary

Posted on July 11th, 2008 in Hui Yu, Presentation by Hui Yu  Tagged ,

Miss Lee had requested us to redo our presentation.

OUR DOCUMENTARY
We can continue to use the chromakey technique. But, we have to plan our documentary well. We have to start our planning NOW. We can still use the same timeline of the previous documentary. Now, we have to use our background usefully. We could have point to the background that is related. For example, Min wen can point to the parts of the poster as she is explaining. As for the propaganda cartoon, we should have cut out more relevant parts and eleborate on it.
